History: Taylorville Correctional Center, opened in 1990, is a male minimum-security prison. It is located about a half-hour southeast of Springfield or four hours southwest of Chicago. Taylorville is home to the Volunteer Sex Offender Program (VSOTP), a program where incarcerated individuals with sexual offenses become part of a therapeutic community and attend weekly group therapy sessions and psychoeducational classes. As of 2023, there were 130 individuals actively participating in the program.
